Video Card problem on Windows 7?

About a month ago I upgraded my desktop computer to windows 7, but for some reason since I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium I only get about around 30 FPS with the settings on max on any of the games I play, but what's weird is that I get the same amount of FPS even if the settings are turned all the way down, Before I upgraded to windows 7 I had Windows XP Media Center, where I would easily get 60+ FPS with maxed settings, I have a ATI Radeon HD 5500 video card I've installed all of the drivers and the catalyst control center but I still don't know what's causing this. x.x|||How much RAM do you have?

That is a good amount of RAM. I would have to know the other specs of your computer to pinpoint the problem. Your CPU might be slow, but if you have sufficient RAM it should perform. Check your processor speed against the game requirements, make sure you are running your ATI on a PCIe expansion slot (not to insult your intelligence).|||This can be the problem of RAM power.

Video Card locking up computer? - Windows 7? Overheat?

Hi, Need some help from the pro's here. I just got a new slimline computer and put a video card in - BFG GeForce 210 512mb. Installed their drivers / and windows 7 went and pulled drivers automatically as well.

http://www.frys.com/product/6046258

Unfortunately my computer now locks up once a day randomly. Sometimes just browsing the web. I had bought a previous video card MSI VN210 as well and it also had the lock up problem. Anyone know what causes this?

Other info:

Running windows 7

Running dual 23" monitors

Using low profile card due to slimline case.

Thanks for your advice and help!|||Your computer's specs would help. ie. make/model, processor, ram, psu wattage etc. otherwise its all a bunch of guessing.

edit: From what I can tell you are trying to run a 300watt card with a 220 watt power supply. Check the minimum specs of the card and then re check the specs of your computer... I ain't no rocket scientist but thats gotta cause issues.|||Try to move the mouse (pointer) across the screen.

The Mouse Does Not Move

If the mouse does not move at all across the screen, press the <Alt> key once and then press the <Down Arrow> a few times.

* If there is no movement on the screen, then the system is probably frozen meaning that all programs are locked up. Press and hold the computer's power button for 5 seconds until the computer shuts off, and then start the computer.

1. Check all the recently installed hardware or software. If you've installed either a new hardware or software, you need to uninstall it. If the problem does not persist, then that hardware or software caused the freezing/crash.

2. Run the antivirus program in your computer. Computer lock ups happen suddenly. The antivirus program should be updated regularly. If you have no antivirus program, you can make use of the free programs online. Search the web for free antivirus program that you can use to check which caused the crash or freeze.

3. Remove spyware through spyware removal programs. If you've finished tip number two and you did not find any virus, then there might be spyware or adware in your pc. You can download software programs that remove spyware/adware or you can use the free spyware removal software programs online.

4. Check the hard drive space. Check drive C and you must ensure that free space is over 20%. If the disk space is quite low, it may be the cause of random lock ups.

5. Check if your pc is overheating. Lockups are also caused by overheating. Make sure that the fan inside the computer does not have any dust buildup; cooling problems are also among the causes. The temperature should be just within the prescribed limits. Observe extra care when cleaning the case of your computer.

6. Check the computer's hard disk. You need to ensure that the computer's logical structure is not corrupted. Go to 'My Computer' and right click the 'disc C'. Click on the 'tools' tab. Check 'yes' if a prompt appears to restart the computer. After startup, some problems are fixed automatically. But if problems persist, the hard disk may need to be replaced. Run the 'disk defragmenter' so that the computer will perform well. This is one way to ensure computer reliability.

7. Check the computer's memory. Lockups, freezing or crashing are also related to memory. If you find memory problems, re-seat the RAM. After you've re-seat it and the problem persists, you should replace it because it is already defective.

8. Advanced users can check for hardware problems. Make sure that you do this appropriately.

9. Update the drivers and Windows. Outdated components can sometimes cause freezing. You need to update these components regularly

I have windows 7 installed on my machine, is there anyway i can install xp drivers without installing win xp?

because i heard about virtual xp in windows 7, and i already tried to install an xp video card driver on windows 7 but it didnt work, so is there a way it can work? thanks in advance.|||While you might be able to install some XP drivers in win7 through a virtualization environment, it is doubtful that you will get a video card driver to work. VirtualBox requires a valid XP license anyway, so you would need to install all of that first. Virtual environments are not known for high-res. They need to fall back on the video card of the host system to work, because you are viewing them through the host. If all else fails, install Ubuntu on your system, and then run Win7 in a virtualbox. Then your video card driver will probably work through the linux host. Back up first! All the best.

Unable to install Realtek AC'97 driver (Windows 7 Gigabyte GA-K8VT890-9 VIA k8T890 chipset onboard audio)?

Hi, hopefully you can help me.

I have recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8VT890-9 with VIA k8T890 chipset, onboard audio is Realtek AC'97.

I had to dig around for a Realtek AC'97 audio driver for Windows 7 (gigabyte have not updated their hosted driver since 2005), but I was able to find a driver, which was installed successfully. I had working onboard sound.

Please help, my video card is a Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family.|||You're using an integrated video chipset. Everything Mobile Intel below 945 does not have the correct DirectX Version support or Pixel Shader Model for it to run Windows 7's aero.

You should of downloaded the upgrade advisor on Microsoft's site before buying 7. Unfortunately you can't get aero unless you're on a desktop and can install a video card, but if you're on a laptop you have no options but to run it without aero, which honestly isn't the true windows 7 experience.

Q: Why doesn't Intel 915 graphic chipset family support aero?

A: The overall graphics architecture and design of the 915 Express chipset family (with Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900 graphics engine) was finalized prior to Microsoft releasing details and specifications around the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver. Given this, there are hardware limitations in the 915 Express chipset architecture that would limit graphics performance and memory capabilities when attempting to run WDDM on 7.

The hardware limitations of 915/GMA900 graphics center around not having a large enough memory table to support 7 Aero, a key feature that is part of WDDM driver support. This, along with hardware restrictions on surface placement and graphics memory alignment, results in graphics memory usage that is not optimized for Aero performance. Additionally, the lack of native hardware support in the 915 Express chipset family for 7’s dynamic memory management would result in slower graphics performance and a sub-optimal user experience with Windows 7's Aero.

With these identified limitations, the 915/GMA900-based graphics system would not have met the performance requirements for Aero desktop composition support under 7. This ultimately led to the decision to begin WDDM support with the Intel 945 Express chipset products, as Intel addressed these hardware limitations with the desktop and mobile Intel 945 Express chipset families.

To provide the best performance and user experience with Windows 7 on Intel 915/GMA900 platforms, Intel will support Windows 7 on 915/GMA900 with the drivers based on the XP driver model.|||Check with computers manufacture to get the drivers, then check for all other drivers and load them to disk for the future|||Hello Josan,

You have learned the hard way, and wasted money, Windows 7 was NOT designed for Netbooks or NoteBooks. or low end laptops It was designed for High end Computer Systems,

Explanation. on how Microsoft works,

When Netbooks and Notebook where being developed. they was developed to be cheap and run with Linux Operating systems in mind. because Linux will run on ten year old 386 computer systems with 128 megabytes of ram with no problems what so ever.

Microsoft realized this they know that Vista and 7 would not run on these new systems, so what they did was to cut both operating systems down to the bone so that they would run on them, but a lot of the function would not work. MS knows that once Linux becomes known they are dead ducks in the water, They also knew that people would rush out and buy windows 7 if it was advertised and pushed by there outlets,

If your in the states you will never see a computer in best buys. or any other store for that matter for sale with Linux on. why because these stores make more money selling and supporting Microsoft Products, and selling anti virus software when window crashes or get a trojan virus what happens you take your computer in to these stores and they reinstall windows at a high price,

With Linux it is FREE It's secure, it never crashes, it never get a virus, it runs year in year out without any problems. it is upgraded every 6 months that's why stores don't want to sell system with Linux on once that system goes through their shop doors thats the last that store will see that computer, Linux is 10 years ahead of windows and Apple Mac,

now what you can do is download any one of Linux operating systems for free with all the software you will ever need, all free, and you will never have a bit of trouble with

HP's new Linux system is called MIE (Mobile Internet Experience) what you want for your is Ubuntu UNR (Notebook Remix)

Why does my video driver revert to the previous version after computer restart?

When I install an updated driver for my video card on my Windows 7 machine, it works great. I can use the full capabilities of the GPU no problem. The thing is though, when I restart my computer, it reverts back to the old version! How do I make the new driver to stick, even after a restart? I've tried looking this up on tons of forums and google, but can find nothing.|||If your computer always restart, There are some reason:

I. It's Hot in There

Sometimes this can be caused by an overheating situation. Itunes, RealPlayer, Windows Media player, etc. require a lot of processing power to decompress and decode music files, which can cause the processor or hard drive to get hot.

Memory Fails Me...

If you determine that overheating is not the problem, the most likely suspect is bad memory.

II. Don't Do Me Any Favors

There's a setting buried in Windows XP that tells your computer to restart when a system error occurs. you turn off that option, you may solve your automatic reboot problem.

1) Click Start, then open Control Panel

2) Click Performance and Maintenance

3) Click System

4) Click on the Advanced Tab

5) Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section

6) Uncheck Automatically Restart in the System failure section

Note that this may prevent the system from restarting, but it can also mask the true problem.

The most common cause of computer restarting is a corrupt registry.

Most likely your registry is bloated and overstuffed with an assortment of useless pieces of data. The operating system while running your computer has to pick its way through all this excess material. There will be bits of programs which were not completely uninstalled, parts of programs which were never completely installed, fragments of miscellaneous data, useless drivers, and a multitude of other bits and pieces.

The answer is to clean your registry and remove all the material which is not needed.

Video card or windows 7 issue?

System requirements lab said I have 3.7 gb of video ram, and it said you have gtx 285 and it didn't say you have two gtx 285 and in my nvidia control panel it said this...

shared system memory... 2811 mb

I have extracted the files for you and they can be downloaded from the following URL:

Your driver packages are are somewhat down the list. I had to split them into 5mb archives because of space restrictions.

3. Click START

4. Right click 'Computer' and select 'Properties'

6. Expand the 'Display Adapters' and right click your graphics card (it might have a generic name)

7. Choose 'Update Driver Software'

8. Choose 'Browse My Computer for Driver Software'

9. Click the 'Browse' button

10. Navigate to where you extracted the driver package

11. Double click the driver INF file (might be called nv_disp)

12. Follow the prompts to install and restart your computer

Windows 7 shows blue screen after starting windows logo then it automatically restart in normal windows?

Also can you start the computer successfully in safe mode?

Any number of things could be causing this problem. A failed windows update, hard drive corruption, power supply problems (such as power supply needing replaced) and hardware failures are just some examples. If you can get into windows (even in safe mode) you can stop windows from automatically restarting, thus allowing you to see the stop error information. Here's how...

1. Start windows (either in safe mode, or normal mode) and logon to your desktop.

2. Click the start orb (or start button in safe mode) right click "Computer" and click properties in the menu that appears.

3. In the window that appears, near the top left, click on the link that says "Advance System settings"

4. In the System Properties window, make sure you're looking at the "Advanced" tab then under "Startup and Recovery" click the "Settings" button.

5. in the "Startup and Recovery" window, uncheck the box that says "Automatically restart" then click "Ok" to close that window, then click "Ok" in the system properties button to close it, and apply the new setting.

Now when you have a blue screen stop error, the computer will continue to display the blue screen until you turn off the computer by holding the power button until the power cuts off, or until you pull the power plug or remove the battery (laptops only). This will allow you to read the information, and write down the stop error code number

EXAMPLE: stop error 0x0000007

Generally there is also a filename listed near the top or bottom of the blue screen associated with the cause of the error. you can use google to look up the stop error by going to gogle.com and putting that stop error code in the search box and windows 7

EXAMPLE google --> stop error 0x0000007 windows 7

Hope this helps
